Item No. 800341 GREAT MONGOLS: Malik of Kurzuwan, June-July 1221, AE jital, Kurzuwan, AH618 Jumada I, A-1971, Tye-324, with al-malik in center, choice Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Formerly considered an issue of Chingiz Khan, the type is now regarded as having been struck by the local ruler (malik) of Kurzuwan while under siege by the Mongols. It is thus one of very few identifiable "siege coins" of the Islamic world. |
