In August 1963, an initial contact was made with the Austrian Mint, requesting a quotation on the purchase of 500 Maria Theresa thalers. One month later, the Austrian Mint responded with a price quote of $555.00, plus $11.51 shipping charges from Europe. The counterstamping was done by Stange Manufacturing Co., Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri, in January 1964. Only 457 of the original Austrian Mint order were counterstamped. This counterstamped issue is rarely encountered.
