Little is known about this bronze pattern, but the Khmer calligraphy on this type differs from the white metal British-made patterns of similar design. The crudeness of strike might indicate this type was produced locally. Examples have sold in Numismatica Genevensis and Stack's Bowers & Ponterio. This type is published by Howard Daniel on page 114 of his book, Cambodian Coins and Currency.

J. Silvestre was a French colonial administrator in Indochina and the author of The Coins and Medals of Annam published in the American Journal of Numismatics, Vol. 37, #3 in 1903. This type appears to be unpublished in the SCWC and by Howard Daniel. This is the largest and heaviest 'hamza' bird type we have yet encountered.
