Lot 571 GREAT MONGOLS: Chingiz Khan, 1206-1227, AR dirham (3.14g), NM (Ghazna), ND, A-1967, inscribed al-'adil / al-a'zam / chingiz khan, thus citing Chingiz Khan by name, Zeno type A2/B2, bold VF to EF, R. It has recently been suggested that this type was not necessarily struck at Ghazna, but by the Mongol military after it departed from Ghazna when chasing Mangubarni towards the Indus River, with minting equipment brought along from Ghazna. |
